Ashleigh Barty is credited with being the World No.1 in women’s singles tennis. The title is conferred on her by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). She is the second Australian player to receive such a high ranking by the WTA. She has also occupied the spot for No. 5 in the World for doubles. 

While on the WTA tour Barty clinched 14 singles and 12 doubles titles. She also has 3 Grand Slam titles in total to her credit. Two for singles and one for a doubles event. The Grand Slam events she dominated are the 2019 French Open and 2021 Wimbledon in the singles category, and the 2018 US Open in the doubles category.

Ashleigh Barty took to the game of tennis at a surprisingly early age of four years old. Both her parents were golf enthusiasts and have played for the sport at a competitive level. This might have had something to do with the fact that she turned into a brilliant sportsman.

In the year 2014, Barty took an indefinite break from tennis. She did not cite any reasons for her decisions, but during interviews, she did say that the game did not excite her as it used to before. She continued playing on a recreational level though. She also tried her hand at cricket during this hiatus and ended up playing the game on a semi-professional level.
