Arantxa Rus was born on December 13 1990, in the city of Delft in the Netherlands. She is now a professional tennis player for the Netherlands. Until now, she has 27 singles and 9 doubles titles to her credit on the ITF Circuit. She has also earned 4 WTA doubles titles so far.

Her biggest singles successes to date are a second-round defeat over the-world No. 2, Kim Clijsters, at the 2011 French Open, when she reached the fourth round at the 2012 French Open, and when she defeated world No. 5, Samantha Stosur, in the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. Her maiden WTA Tour title was winning the 2017 Swedish Open doubles event, partnering with Quirine Lemoine, her childhood friend.

Career

  • Rus turned professional in 2008 and won an ITF title in Bari beating Lucie Hradecká and Alberta Brianti along the way.
  • In the same year, she had her first main-draw win on the WTA Tour where she reached the quarterfinals by beating Gisela Dulko but unfortunately lost to Camille Pin.
  • She then won another ITF tournament In Opole and ended the year 2009 ranked as 188.
  • In 2010, She played at the Koddaert Ladies Open. In the first round, she overcame Tathiana Garbin, and in the second round, she defeated Michaëlla Krajicek. She, unfortunately, lost in the quarterfinals to Timea Bacsinszky.
  • She began 2011 by playing at Brisbane International, where she played through the qualifying rounds. In the first round, she defeated Isabella Holland. In the second round, she defeated Olivia Rogowska, but then lost to Anna Tatishvili.
  • In the same year at the Australian Open, Rus went through the qualifying rounds and In the first round, she defeated Julia Cohen. In the second, she again defeated Isabella Holland, and in the third qualifying round, she beat Kurumi Nara.However, in her first Australian Open main-draw appearance, she defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second round.
  • In 2012, at The Oaks Club Challenger, she defeated Misaki Doi, Irina Falconi, Florencia Molinero, Edina Gallovits-Hall and in the final Sesil Karatantcheva to win her first title after ITF Nantes in 2009.
  • In 2013  in Bad Gastein she defeated María Teresa Torró Flor and Estrella Cabeza Candela in the first two rounds but in the quarterfinals, she lost to Yvonne Meusburger.
  • In 2014 At the French Open, Rus beat Lyudmyla Kichenok in the first qualifying round, but lost to Timea Bacsinszky in the second round. 
  • In 2015 she reached the final of a $15k tournament in the ITF Circuit in Zeeland in the Netherlands where she lost to Quirine Lemoine.
  • In 2017 at the Rosmalen Championships which is a  WTA tournament, she defeated Timea Babos in the first round followed by Andrea Hlaváčková. In the quarterfinals, she lost to Natalia Vikhlyantseva. However, This performance marked Rus’s first win at WTA level since the 2013 Gastein Ladies and it also marked the first time Rus won a main-draw grass-court match since the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. 
  • In the same year, She won her first WTA doubles title in the Swedish Open at Båstad, partnering with Quirine Lemoine.
